About this Episode

In this episode of Future of Marketing, hosts Ethan Smith and Camille Ricketts talk with Sheila Vashee, Chief Marketing Officer at Figma, about scaling one of the most beloved creative tools in the world from product-led growth roots to enterprise expansion and AI-native workflows. Sheila's career spans Dropbox, Opendoor, Ethos, and now Figma—companies that didn't just grow, but became movements. At Figma, she's helped steward a brand built on community, co-creation, and craft. With over 200 "Friends of Figma" chapters globally and an annual Config conference dubbed the "Coachella for designers," Figma has turned user enthusiasm into durable distribution. The conversation explores what companies get wrong about PLG (optimizing before earning user love), how 70% of Figma's enterprise deals begin with individual users, and why expansion works best when it feels like a natural evolution—not a forced upsell.

"Your craft as a designer, as a human, your craft, your taste, what you bring to the table is actually what sets your product apart, and that can't be automated. No matter how many tools you have at your disposal, your judgment, your craft is what makes your product special."

— Sheila Vashee
